Hello Students!

Welcome and take a moment to check out the TechLitClass (TLC) Blog. Browse around the site, discover  the various TLC cartoon1weblinks and sections we will use in class.  This website is in a creative zone, so expect lots of updates to be added from your student input, plus new ideas and features that are discovered.  In the process, we are creating a shared class presence where we to get to know each other, and also share with others in the world.   To get started, complete the assignments listed below.  I  look forward to working with each of you, and wish you a great semester ahead.

Assignment 2: Introductions -  Add a ’Sticky Note’  to share few words to tell about YOU TODAY. Right click this link and select ‘Open in a new tab’: http://www.wallwisher.com/wall/techlitclass

Assignment 3: It is SUPER important to know how to correctly ”Save” your work for this class.  Learn how by completing the POST below entitled “Lesson on How To Save”.

Assignment 4 : Explore any  seven of the websites located on the left side of this blog.  Then complete the following and save it into your folder:

a. Open M.S. Word and create a heading on the top left side entitled ”Exploring TLC Website”.  Under this title add your name, date and class period and save it in your class folder, adding your name to the file.

b. Next, visit any seven websites listed on the TLC website.  Type a list of the names the seven websites you visited, and next to the website name, describe briefly what the website is about.

c. Last, pick two websites from your list you liked the best.  Spend extra time trying out the two sites.  Then type a short paragraph next to the site’s name telling what you specifically did on the site, what you liked about it and why. *Check for capital letters, full sentences, spelling, grammar. SAVE AGAIN!

Lesson on “How to Save”

Is it important to save your work in the right place?   Why?   If you save it right, it means I can find it, grade it and you can get . . .  credit.

Assignment:   1. Open Microsoft Word.   2. Type your heading at the top left:  Heading must include:  Name of the Assignment, Your Name, Periods, Date.      3. Type the 6 steps needed to save correctly in this class.  Name your document How to Save_Your Name.   4. Follow the steps and SAVE!

What You See . . . Is What You Get?

Basketball-LeagueLeadersBUT WHAT DO YOU SEE?   

TAKE 1:  Watch the video below VERY carefully.  COUNT how many times the ball is passed . . . ONLY to people  in WHITE  tee-shirts.  Do females count more accurately than males?  

How many times was the ball passed?  When you click this video link start counting > What you see, is what you get     

TAKE 2:  Watch the exact same video for the 2nd time.  DO NOT count ANYTHING  . . . watch & relax.  Did you see something you didn’t see before?      

TAKE 3:  Write your thoughts.  Post one paragraph about your experience watching the video. 

Answer these questions:   1. Why on the 2nd time people view the video, do they often they see it differently?  2.  If a person’s mindset can block them from seeing a reality front of them, what effect can that have?    Tell about it.brain neurons fire

TAKE 4:  Check your paragraph for complete sentences; capital letters, spelling and punctuation!

How Does Your Brain Learn?

Assignment:

  1. Brain-Power_0View this facinating video about the brain.  
  2. Then post a parapraph on your blog  titled “The Learning Brain “.   In your post, be sure to explain:  

  •  What is the main idea of the video?
  •  Does memorization work when learning?   Why or why not?
  •  Why is repetition and making connections essential when learning? 
  •  Last, tell how you could improve your studying to increase learning for yourself.

 * Extra credit:  Connect what you learned in this video.  Can blogging help you make connections to improve your learning?  How?

 Blogs:    Reading and writing blogs is about what?   Conversation?  Collaboration?  Connection?  YES.  Can interaction with others help our minds expand, think, learn new unexpected ways?    Let’s find out.   Lets start a BLOG conversation right here and now.   But wait . . . First find out a little more about the history of BLOGS:  WeLoveBlog

Assignment:   A.  VIEW at this video Blogs in Plain English:   B.  Write a POST in your BLOG.  Complete all 4 items below using full sentences and spell check.

  1. POST TITLEBlogs in Plain English
  2. SUBTITLE:   5 Facts About Blogs.  Then list  5 facts you learned from the video:  Blogs in Plain English.  
  3. CONCLUSION:  Tell readers in your own words what you think is best about creating your own BLOG and how it could avatar2be valuable to you. 
  4. RESOURCES:   Finally, locate and list 2 websites that can help people learn how to blog.  
  5. Upload two IMAGES to your post to liven it up!

The 30/60 Day Grading Cycle @ DTHS

As a student at Daylight/Twilight write a post to express your graduation-jubilationexperience, opinions, thoughts and conclusions thus far about Daylight/Twilight’s new grading cycle this year: 30 days = 5 credits in a core subject; 60 days = 5 credits for an elective. 

  1.       First paragraph:  Introduce yourself telling a little about yourself and your experience in school, and what you will be writing about in this post.  
  2.      Second paragraph:  Tell your overall opinion thus far with the new 30/60 grading cycle. Do you think it is helpful to students?  Why or why not? How is it helpful or not?   Will the new grading cycle succeed, as hoped, to help students get to school, gain credits, and graduate?  Why yes or why not?   Support your opinion about the value of new grading cycle by giving specific examples and details from your own personal experience, or the experience of someone you know.  
  3.      Third paragraph:  This is your summary conclusion.  Restate your conclusion in different words about the 30/60 day grading cycle and tell what your hopes and dreams are for you and the other students at Daylight/Twilight. 
  4.      Add Image to Post:   Add at least two images, one which is animated,  to liven up your post.
  5.     Video student interview:    Partner up with another student to do a video interview, edit it, then post it to your blog for to share with others.
